After international students are accepted to a U.S. school that is Student Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certified, they receive a Form I-20 from the school's Designated School Official (DSO). Form I-20 is better known by its official title, Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status. This important document allows international students to do many things in addition to studying the United States: be admitted into a U.S. port of entry; change or extend their status during their time in the U.S.; and apply for various benefits, including obtaining a driver's license and authorizing part-time employment on the campus of the school the student attends.
